World Clash Commemorates The End of An Era in Sound Clash

New York, New York – May 2022 (Irish and Chin) – Like a storybook ending, the World Clash trophy returned to Jamaica, the birthplace of the sound clash, upon Code Red’s recent victory. Moreover, the sold-out O2 Academy in Birmingham, England served as the ultimate finale to World Clash, a premier sound system competition produced by New York based promoters Irish and Chin since 1998 (and the final in association with UK’s Reggae Girls Promotions).

The UK was picked for the last staging of the Irish and Chin event because of its rich connection to Jamaican’s sound system culture. The UK is one of the first places throughout the Jamaican diaspora to embrace sound system culture! And based on the electrifying production, the choice was not made in vain.

Heralded as the industry’s longest-running clash, World Clash thrust the art of sound clash to another stratosphere during its exciting and vibrant 24-year run. Through World Clash, a soundclash erupted into a spectacular competition with lights, camera, and action, reminiscent of a blockbuster stage show!

Add professional production (backdrops, one sound system), the positioning of selectors and sounds as superstars (vs standing around a sound), formatting, effective marketing, and high caliber entertainment to the mix and you’ve got the winning World Clash formula, which catapulted sound clash culture to wider audiences.

New Soca Chutney Competition Coming in 2023

Soca will meet Chutney music in quite a different way in 2023. This is the assurance of two cultural promoters who have joined forces in an effort to truly unify the nation through music. Well-known event promoter, Randy Glasgow says he is excited following talks and a solidified partnership with the National Chutney Foundation of Trinidad and Tobago.

Explaining that the competition will encourage Soca artists to deepen their relationships with artists within the Chutney fraternity and vice-versa, Glasgow said he hopes the government of Trinidad and Tobago and corporate entities will understand the vision. “There’s no better time than the present to forge unified cultural relationships. We’ve seen the opportunity to unite the world when Machel Montano took Trinidad and Tobago’s Soca music to India. The crowd we saw engaged in that moment, was inspiring – a clear indication of what could happen if we continue to work together as a people,” said Glasgow.

An Unbeatable Showcase

Randy Glasgow Productions has, over the years, hosted Chutney Brass, an event branded as the largest Indo music festival outside of India. In addition to that, the promotional outfit has delivered numerous Soca events, inclusive of ‘Ladies Night Out’ and ‘Soca with Her’. Now, with a clear and purposeful mission determined, Glasgow, together with Dr. Vajay Ramlal Rai of the National Chutney Foundation, is promising an unbeatable and unparalleled showcase of Trinidad and Tobago’s most indelible cultural expressions.

Beenie Man Reminds Critics He’s Still “King of Dancehall”

Beenie Man reinforces his place in Jamaican music in his latest song, “King of Dancehall.”

The 48-year-old veteran deejay spits heavy lyrics on a trap beat, reminding the industry of his kinship title that he will not be relinquishing any time soon. The song, which was released on Sunday (February 20), comes two months after Beenie Man declared himself the one and only King of Dancehall during an interview on Ghana’s Hitz103.9FM.

The song seems to be in response to the question posed by the host about how he has kept his title for “so many years.”

“King of Dancehall” explores Beenie Man’s decades-long journey to the top, a story which Beenie Man says makes him perfect for the position as King.

The song opens with the artiste noting that he has been “doing this (for) so many years, (through) so many tears.” He then goes on to spit lyrics geared towards haters questioning his kinship, listing his credentials that makes him the only reigning King.
